Welcoming a New Year. Hello World!

Ah, it's a new year and we have a fresh clean slate of endless possibilities.  This time of year, most of us set resolutions that are full of goals and fitness planning.  Sadly, these well-intentioned plans are often set aside and come to an end as we navigate the state of our world. 

 

This blog post is not about planning or dreaming. 

It's not about welcoming big goals.

Or, long-term plans. 

It's not about creating a new you. 

Or, losing weight. 

It's not about making this the best year yet. 

Or, how you can do just 5% more. 

 

Instead, it is about emotional wellness. 

 

Finding the calm within ourselves is vital to navigating the storms we are presented with.  We need to know how to manage our emotional health to prepare us to fight the battles that may or may not lay ahead. 

 

The theme for this blog is creating calm. 

 

Using Essential Oils to Calm Our Nervous System

Our nervous system is our body's communication channel. The nerves send and receive messages that allow you think, feel and process sensory information, and control movement. The nervous system is also responsible for emotions. Learning to manage negative emotions can help balance the nervous system. 

 

Essential oils can help calm the body, generate a positive mood, and support a healthy nervous system. 

 

The nervous system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, and complex pathways of nerves throughout the body.  In addition to generating thoughts and feelings, the nervous system processes information supplied by our senses, regulates involuntary body processes, and allows the brain to control movements of the body. 

 

When you touch a hot pan, your nervous system communicates the painful feeling of being burned to your brain, which tells your hand to quickly pull away.  Without your nervous system, you could not reason, understand language, think, see, taste, smell or feel.  

 

An imbalance of the nervous system can contribute to head tension, discomfort, feeling of anxiousness or stress, memory fog, and a myriad of other daily struggles. 

 

Meditation, grounding, acupuncture, and of course, essential oils can help support a healthy nervous system. 

 

Using Essential Oils for Emotional Health

Our emotional health can directly influence how the rest of our body feels and functions. When we are in emotional distress, it lowers our overall quality of life and how we feel day-to-day.  It also lowers our resistance leaving us wide open for unwanted pathogens/dis-ease to enter our bodies.  Personally, the past three years took its toll on my body, and experienced firsthand how things start to unravel. As they say,  "been there done that and got the unwanted t-shirt!"

 

Emotional health affects how we make decisions, how we interact with others, and how we respond to events that happen in life. Things like stress, anxious feelings, changes in the weather, and a host of troubling (yet common) emotions can negatively influence our mood.  Some studies have even shown a negative correlation between the use of smartphones and mental health. 

 

No matter what is distressing us, it is important to find tools and coping methods to help counteract negative emotions - otherwise, it can seriously impact our quality of life. 

 

Among many resources, we can use essential oils for emotional health by creating a sense of calmness and well-being, or producing an uplifting environment. 

 

Applying essential oils for emotional benefits

  • Massage onto the base of the skull
  • Rub on the inside of the elbow or wrist
  • Apply a drop to the palms of your hands, rub together, cup your hands together and take a deep breath in, inhaling the therapeutic aroma.
  • Wear diffuser-type jewelry to carry the aroma with you all day.

 

Grounding Essential Oils

Sunshine Roller Bottle 

    • 10 mL roller bottle add....
    • 8 drops doTERRA Balance® Grounding Blend
    • 8 drops doTERRA Cheer® Uplifting Blend
    • Top with a carrier oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
    • Gently shake well to mix.

 

Apply along the spine, up the forearms, onto pulse points or on the bottoms of the feet to uplift mood.
