Metabolic & Digestive Health Using Natural Solutions
Thursday April 11, 2024
Our overall health and well-being start with what we put on and in our bodies. In our society, we do not typically experience starvation, but malnutrition is key and is one of the leading causes of dis-ease in the body. Vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats lay the foundation for our cells to thrive and flourish. We have to ask ourselves two important questions. Where does our food come from? How is it produced?
Investing in your health is imperative to live a vibrant life without health restrictions. We don’t want to be prisoners in our bodies I use this principle as my “true North” and know that everything I consume is either fighting or promoting disease. I look at it this way, either we are going to pay for good quality, whole, and nutrient-rich foods now, or pay for pharmaceuticals and expensive tests later on. Are you willing to go the extra mile and lay the foundation for good health?
Let’s start with fresh fruits and vegetables. You may say, I can’t afford organic produce. I recommend purchasing organic on the “Dirty Dozen” fruits and vegetables. The amount of pesticides and other harmful chemicals can not be washed off the following:
- Apples
- Celery
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Cucumbers
- Hot Peppers
- Nectarines
- Peaches
- Potatoes
- Spinach
- Strawberries
- Sweet Bell Peppers
- Kale / Collards Green
- Summer Squash
Make sure your items are either marked as Organic or USDA Organic as they do not allow GMOs, synthetic pesticides, roundup/glyphosate pesticides, hexane, sewage sludge, antibiotics, or ractopamine.
Also, check the packaging to see if it was tripled wash or washed with some type of chemical. That will destroy the nutrients in the fruit or vegetable.
The Clean Fifteen is a list of produce that contains the least amount of chemical contamination. You can purchase these items by conventional methods and are budget-friendly.
- Asparagus
- Avocados
- Cabbage
- Cantaloupe
- Sweet Corn
- Eggplant
- Grapefruit
- Kiwi
- Mangos
- Mushrooms
- Onions
- Papaya
- Pineapples
- Sweet Peas Frozen
- Sweet Potatoes
Another caution would be to avoid products containing the chemical Apeel™. It is a chemical additive that slows down the fruit or vegetable's ability to ripen or spoil and extends its shelf life. The key is to eat what is in season in your local area.
If you are a meat eater, make sure your meat is grass-fed and grass-finished, and the animal does not receive antibiotics, or vaccines, and is fed a natural diet that doesn’t consist of soy, corn, or other “fillers.”. If you don’t have a local butcher, I’ve heard great reviews on Wild Pastures or Primal Pastures.
